A Bit About Swagbucks

Swagbucks was founded in 2005, and by their own statistics, has paid out over 700 million dollars to users. They’re owned by Prodege, an online marketing company based in California. Prodege also happens to own several other large rewards sites, such as MyPoints, ShopAtHome and InboxDollars. They also own Pollfish, a massive branded surveys company. Some of Swagbucks’ surveys are handled by Pollfish.

Eligibility

At the time of this writing, Swagbucks is available to those above the age of 13 in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States. It is completely free to sign up for, and you can start earning instantly. Signing up for Swagbucks is quick. All you have to do is give them your email, and you can get started immediately.

Earning Swagbucks

1. Surveys

Surveys will likely be your main money maker with Swagbucks. There are also plenty of surveys to choose from, with quite a variety of payouts. Surveys will require you to “qualify” before you can answer them. Essentially, this means that before you can get to the real survey, you’ll have to answer a few questions to determine whether or not they actually want to hear from you. If you don’t qualify, you’ll get a single Swagbuck for your time.

Our calculations found that the average earnings for surveys are 4.26 Swagbucks per minute. Since a Swagbuck is equivalent to a penny, my earnings would be around $2.56 an hour, assuming I spent every second of that hour filling out surveys. Keep in mind that we were also using Swagbuck’s survey completion time estimations; the actual time spent will vary.

2. Offers

If giving out personal information isn’t your thing, don’t worry, there are still more ways to earn some Swagbucks. You can also complete “offers”, which generally involve downloading an app or signing up for some product. Swagbucks will of course earn a commission from the company, and will, in turn, give a portion of it to you. Some offers can pay up to 20,000 Swagbucks, equivalent to $200!

If you’re planning on downloading a game or signing up for something, it is worth checking the offers page before doing so, to see if it’s there. For example, I could have earned $100 if I had signed up for Crypto.com through Swagbucks.

3. Magic Receipts

If you enjoy shopping, you can earn some cashback on your shopping through “magic receipts”. To use these magical receipts, simply go shopping as usual and, once you’ve got your receipt, turn it into a magical one by uploading it to Swagbucks.

Bought some broccoli? It doesn’t matter how much, it doesn’t matter where you bought it! Simply upload the receipt and earn 2 Swagbucks. Certain products, such as bananas, will pay you up to 100 Swagbucks, equivalent to 1 dollar. We counted over 200 different products you can claim cashback on. While this is great, as usual, with most good things, there’s a catch. Most offers only allow you to redeem them once per year. Some products appear more than once, though. Bananas showed up 4 times over the list.

4. Shopping Online

On the topic of cashback, groceries aren’t the only possibility. You can also earn up to 10% cashback when shopping at several online stores. And there are some big stores too, such as Walmart, Staples and Best Buy. On top of those discounts, you can also use coupons that will give you access to features such as free delivery, bonus discounts and more.

5. Swagbucks Search Engine

Swagbucks also allows you to use their special search engine to earn Swagbucks. When you make a search, a banner might show up, allowing you to claim 1 Swagbuck. Whether it’s luck or search frequency, we don’t know. We do know, however, that the search engine is littered with ads, and compared to Google, is quite painful to use. We also know that the search engine is powered by Yahoo, which itself is powered by Bing. When you use the Swagbucks search engine, you’re essentially using an uglier version of Bing, with more ads. But at least you’re getting paid.

Redeeming Swagbucks

Just like there are plenty of ways to earn Swagbucks, there are also plenty of ways to redeem them. A Swagbuck is worth a penny, and can be redeemed for a variety of gift cards, or donated to charity.
